Ring * Con
The Ring * Con (also RingCon ) was an annual German Fantasy - Convention . It was the largest of its kind in Europe and is organized by Fed-Con Veranstaltungs GmbH, which is also responsible for FedCon . The last RingCon took place in 2015. According to the organizer, there will be no further RingCons for the time being. From 2017, the follow-up event Magiccon will take place at the same place, but with a broader focus.
history
Originally, the main focus of the RingCon was on JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and the film adaptations of Peter Jackson , from which their name is derived. Since 2007 she has also dealt with book and film series such as Harry Potter , Bis (s) and Twilight , Pirates of the Caribbean , The Chronicles of Narnia , Game of Thrones , The Hobbit , Merlin and others.
The RingCon took place in Bonn in autumn from 2002 to 2004 , but in the meantime in Fulda from 2005 to 2007 . From 2008 the venue was again the Maritim Hotel in Bonn .
In addition to many guest appearances by actors from the films of the fantasy genres represented at the convention, the RingCon was also characterized by fan activities .
The RingCon was brought into being due to the topicality of the Lord of the Rings films by Peter Jackson, but also offered a platform for friends of the literary works of JRR Tolkien: lecturers and scientists drew linguistic comparisons of the languages of Middle-earth and showed parallels to Old English . In addition, workshops for learning the Elvish language and its script, sword fighting courses and working groups for the production of chain mail were held at previous events . Controversial discussions (for example about the differences between the works of Tolkien and CS Lewis ' World of Narnia) were also on the program.
At the beginning, the German Tolkien Society was the initiator and co-organizer. Because of the high requirements and the large number of visitors, Fed-Con Veranstaltungs GmbH was later the sole organizer. The Tolkien Society continued to offer items on the program and provided many of the lecturers.
