background

The company was originally founded in 1995 by Tim Collins under the name Ripplewood. The investment portfolio ranged from telecommunications and banks to the entertainment industry and is essentially divided into the two areas of financial services and industrial holdings.

In 2004 Ripplewood Holdings transferred its portfolio to the Belgian company RHJI (Ripplewood Holdings Japan International). RHJ International was founded in 2004. In the past fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2009, RHJI made a loss of the equivalent of 1,175.3 million euros on sales of 3.03 billion euros.

RHJI is managed by former Dresdner Bank board member Leonhard Fischer (CEO). The CEO of Axel Springer AG , Mathias Döpfner , is also represented on the Supervisory Board . The Bundestag member Michael Glos works as a consultant for RHJI.

In Europe, the company acquired the automotive supplier Honsel AG in Meschede . He had to file for bankruptcy on October 25, 2010.

In the struggle to take over and carve out Opel from the General Motors group , RHJI - like Magna International and Fiat - submitted an offer on May 20, 2009. This offer was rejected by GM in the same way as before the Fiat offer and later also the originally preferred Magna offer.

In 2014 RHJI left the private equity business.

In 2016, BHF Kleinwort Benson was taken over by the French private bank Oddo .
