The River Bulbourne is a watercourse in Hertfordshire , England . It arises on the northern edge of Dudswell north of Berkhamstead . Its course closely follows the Grand Union Canal , partly merging into the Canal and finally flowing into the River Gade at Hemel Hempstead .

In 1700 its source was about 4 km further north and today the river tends to dry up in its upper reaches in summer, as the pumping stations that supply water to the Grand Union Canal have lowered the water table.
