The Rivière Chicoutimi is a river in the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean administrative region in the Canadian province of Québec .

The river drains the Lac Kénogami reservoir at its eastern end at the Barrage Portage-des-Roches dam . It flows over a distance of 26 km in a northerly direction to Chicoutimi and there flows into the Rivière Saguenay. The mean discharge is 50 m³ / s. The river has been used for electricity generation and industrially for over a hundred years. In Chicoutimi there is a former paper mill on the Rivière Chicoutimi.

Hydropower plants

There are three larger hydropower plants along the river (in the downstream direction):

  • Chute-Garneau ( ) with 5.3 MW
  • Pont-Arnaud ( ) with 8 MW
  • Chicoutimi ( ) with 8 MW
