The Rivière Koksoak flows in the north of the Canadian province of Québec and is the largest river in the Nunavik region.

Kuujjuaq , an Inuit settlement and administrative center, is located on the banks of the Koksoak about 50 km south of its mouth.

It is believed that the name "Koksoak" comes from missionaries of the Moravian Congregation , who visited the area at the beginning of British rule and adopted the Inuktitut word "Kuujjuaq" for "great river".

In the 19th century the river was also called "Big" or "Southern River", derived from the "Southern Bay", as Ungava Bay was then called. In 1916 the name "Koksoak" was officially adopted for the river.

The Koksoak is created by the confluence of the two rivers Rivière aux Mélèzes coming from the west and the Rivière Caniapiscau from the south. The Koksoak flows about 80 km in an east-northeast direction to Ungava Bay . The river flows past the settlement Kuujjuaq, from where the river continues to flow about 50 km north to its mouth. The total length of the Koksoak and its source river Caniapiscau is 874 km. Its catchment area covers an area of 133,400 km². In 1985 the upper reaches of the Canaipiscau were partially diverted for the Baie James hydropower project . 45% of the water volume now flows from the Caniapiscau reservoir further into the Rivière Laforge and the La Grande Rivière to the west.
