The Rivière Mitchinamecus (old spelling: Rivière Mitchinamécus ) is a right tributary of the Rivière du Lièvre in the Laurentides administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière Mitchinamecus has its headwaters 20 km south of Parent in the Laurentine Mountains in the north of the MRC Antoine-Labelle . The river is fed by two lakes, Lac Hull and Lac du Portage . It initially flows a short distance to the west. Then it turns south and maintains its course. The Rivière Mitchinamecus flows through the Lac du Totem and the Lac de la Tanière . It then flows through the 10 km long Lac Long . After a further distance of 50 km, on which it shows a strongly meandering behavior, it reaches the northern end of the Réservoir Mitchinamecus , a 36 km long reservoir. Below the Barrage Mitchinamecus , the Rivière Mitchinamecus flows another 25 km to its mouth about 25 km north of Sainte-Anne-du-Lac . The lower reaches form a whitewater stretch with numerous rapids. The Rivière Mitchinamecus has a length of about 110 km. At the level above the Chute Rascas , the mean discharge is 19.5 m³ / s with a catchment area of 1050 km².
The Chemin de Parent , a gravel road that leads from Parent to Mont-Saint-Michel , largely follows the course of the river - from Lac du Totem to the upper end of the reservoir, as well as the last 10 kilometers to the confluence with the Rivière du Lièvre.
The Rivière Mitchinamecus - especially the lower reaches - is used by whitewater canoes.
The river name is derived from the Algonquin term for the American arctic char .
