The Rivière Ouareau is a right tributary of the Rivière L'Assomption in the Lanaudière administrative region of the Canadian province of Québec .
The Rivière Ouareau forms the outflow of Lac Ouareau in the Laurentine Mountains about 100 km north of Montréal . The river flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the Parc Régional de la Forêt Ouareau . In the small town of Rawdon , the Chutes Dorwin rapids are located on the river. There the river overcomes a height difference of 23 m. On the lower reaches, the Rivière Ouareau passes the two places Saint-Liguori and Crabtree , before it joins the Rivière L'Assomption, which comes from the east, 10 km south of Joliette . The Rivière Oureau has a length of about 100 km. It drains an area of 1681 km².
Algonquin Power Fund operates a run-of-river power plant with a capacity of 2.4 MW near Rawdon .
