The Rivière du Nord ( French for "River of the North") is a 137 km long left tributary of the Ottawa River in the Laurentides region of the Canadian province of Quebec .
It has its origins in Lake Brûlé near Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts in the Laurentine Mountains . It flows through the Laurentides region northwest of Montreal . It passes the towns of Piedmont and Prévost , the cities of Saint-Jérôme and Lachute and finally flows into the Ottawa River about 50 km west of Montreal from the north.
The oldest bridge over the river was built by William Shaw (1805-1894) near the settlement of Shawbridge (now part of Prévost).
