Rizalino Navarro

Rizalino S. Navarro (* 1938 , † July 7, 2011 in Makati City ) was a Filipino economic manager and politician who was Minister of Trade and Industry during the presidency of Fidel Ramos .

Life

After attending school, Navarro first studied business administration at the University of the East and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS Business Administration) cum laude . He then completed a postgraduate degree in business administration at Harvard Business School with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He then began his professional career as a tax consultant and accountant at SGV, the largest accounting company in the Philippines, where he was promoted to Managing Director in 1982.

In 1992 he was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry by President Fidel Ramos at the suggestion of his college friend and recently appointed Minister of Finance Ramon del Rosario and held this position as Secretary of Trade and Industry until 1996. During this time he was also a member of the Monetary Board, advisory Panel on monetary and currency policy .

After retiring from government service, he switched to the private sector and worked for the Yuchengco Group of Companies founded by the Philippine Chinese Alfonso Yuchengco . There he was initially Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. as well as the construction company EEI until his death .

He was also temporarily chairman of the Clark Development Corp., which is responsible for planning the economic use of the former Clark Air Base of the US Air Force , and a member of the Subic-Clark Area Development Council, the economic development organization for the former United US Naval Base Subic Bay . He was also chairman of Seafront Resources Corporation, Petroenergy Corporation (Petroenergy) and Bankard and a member of the boards of directors of Grepalife, Mapua Institute of Technology, House of Investments, Malayan Insurance, YGC Corporate Services and Upline Food Corporation.
