Rizari ( Greek Ριζάρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a village and at the same time a local community ( Greek Τοπική Κοινότητα Topiki Kinotita ) of the municipality of Edessa in the Greek region of Central Macedonia . It is located about seven kilometers southeast of the seat of the municipality of Edessa , 85 kilometers northwest of Thessaloníki and is at an altitude of about 80 meters above sea ​​level .

Rizari is known for its plantations. In Rizari there are peach, kiwi, apricot, plum and other plantations. But Rizari is mainly known for growing peaches. They grow peaches and sell them at home and abroad. These peaches are used to make jams, juices and peaches in a can.

Surname

The name of the village used to be Ορυζάριον / Orizárion, which comes from the ancient Greek word for rice, ὄρυζα / óriza. The place was called that because of the abundance of water it was possible to grow rice. The top form Orizarion then became Rizarion or Rizari.

The local language is Greek , Pontic is also spoken; most of the inhabitants of Rizari are Greeks , especially Greek Macedonians and Pontians . But there are also some Albanians in Rizari who work on the plantations. Most of the time they are alone in the village because their families are still in Albania. The average age of the population is high, with quite a few elderly people living there.
