Simon I. (Saarbrücken)

Simon I of Saarbrücken († after 1183 ) was count of Saarbrücken from 1135–1183.

Life

Simon was a son of Count Friedrich von Saarbrücken and his wife Gisela. After the death of his father he succeeded as Count of Saarbrücken , his younger brother Adalbert became Archbishop of Mainz in 1138 . After Simon's death, his property was divided. The eldest son Simon received the county of Saarbrücken, the younger son Heinrich founded the county of Zweibrücken . In 1168 Friedrich Barbarossa destroyed Saarbrücken Castle and three other Saarbrücken castles.
