history

Old Town Hall Roßbach

The village was mentioned in writing in the 13th century as Rossebach . At the end of the old empire Roßbach belonged to the Cent vorm Spessart and the area of the Vogteiamt Kleinwallstadt in the Vicedomamt Aschaffenburg in the Electorate of Mainz. In 1812 Roßbach had 45 fireplaces and 293 inhabitants (souls) and belonged to the Districtsmairie and the Kleinwallstadt district bailiff in the Aschaffenburg department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt. Maire was Johann Oberle, the adjuncts were Andreas Fäth and Johann Strip. The school teacher was Peter Hofmann.

As a result of the Paris Treaty of June 3, 1814, Roßbach and the Principality of Aschaffenburg (at that time part of the above-mentioned Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) came to the Crown of Bavaria on June 26, 1814. From October 1, 1814, it belonged to District Court III. Class Kleinwallstadt, Principality of Aschaffenburg, Lower Main District. After the Kleinwallstadt regional court was dissolved, Roßbach came to the first class regional court in Obernburg in 1828. By merging the regional courts of Obernburg and Klingenberg, the Obernburg district office was formed in 1862 , with Roßbach on its administrative territory. As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Roßbach was now one of the 35 communities in the district of Obernburg am Main (later OBB license plate ). With the dissolution of the district of Obernburg, Roßbach came to the newly formed district of Miltenberg in 1972 (license plate MIL ).

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Leidersbach, Ebersbach, Roßbach and Volkersbrunn were merged to form the new unitary community of Leidersbach.

Oddities

Making baking bowls required a certain skill. Bowls were woven from long rye straw and sliced blackberry tendrils, in which the well-kneaded bread dough was placed and left to rise. This created the different loaf shapes , which then became firm during baking. This skill is said to have reached such a high level in Roßbach that you could even see it from behind the Roßbachers and so the dear neighbors gave them the nickname Baking Bowl Ass .
