Rob Stoner

Rob Stoner (* 20th April 1948 in New York City ) and Robert David Rothstein is an American rock - musicians , songwriters and music teacher.

While Stoner was still attending Columbia College in his hometown until 1969, he was able to sign a writing contract with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller with his band . He became a sought-after session guitarist, bassist, and vocalist in the early 1970s. One of the most famous pieces he can be heard on is Don McLean's American Pie . With his own rockabilly band "Rockin 'Rob and the Rebels", he also recorded on his own behalf for Epic Records from 1973 onwards . Bob Dylan engaged Stoner in 1975 for the recordings of his album Desire and the subsequent two-year Rolling Thunder Revue . Stoner can also be heard on Dylan's studio albums Biograph and Hard Rain as well as on the live albums At Budokan and Live 1975 on bass and background vocals.

He then released two critically acclaimed albums of his own on MCA Records and Sun Records . In the 1980s and 1990s, Stoner remained a sought-after session and live musician, whose services include Link Wray , Chuck Berry , Chris Spedding , Ringo Starr , Robert Gordon , Bruce Springsteen , Emmylou Harris , Carl Perkins , Joni Mitchell , Joan Baez , Pete Seeger , Billy Idol , Stevie Ray Vaughan , Carlos Santana , Eric Clapton, and many others. He also wrote three musicals that were performed in New York.

Rob Stoner now lives in Rockland County and teaches singing, bass, guitar and songwriting.
