Robert Wayne Tallas (born March 20, 1973 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach , who played for the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League from 1989 to 2005 . He has been a goalkeeping coach for the Florida Panthers since 2009 .
Career
Tallas began his career with the South Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and has since moved to the Seattle Thunderbirds . He had his first professional engagement with the Charlotte Checkers in the 1994/95 season. Via the Providence Bruins he made it into the National Hockey League in 1995 and played there for five years with the Boston Bruins before the Chicago Blackhawks brought him to the team. However, due to unconvincing performance, he never got beyond the position of substitute goalkeeper, although he had a total of 99 appearances in the NHL.
From 2001 to 2003 he acted as a goalkeeper with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League , but had to share this position with Sébastien Caron . In the summer of 2003 he finally moved to Europe and had a good season at HPK Hämeenlinna in the Finnish SM-liiga . The following year he was signed by the Austrian club EC Red Bull Salzburg , which had made it to the Austrian ice hockey league the previous season . However, Tallas did not prove the much-needed support for the inexperienced team and was released early. The team ended their debut season in last place without him, and Tallas ended his playing career.
Since 2009 he has been working as a consultant for goalkeeping training for the Florida Panthers .
