Robert Briner

Robert Briner (born June 17, 1885 in Neuthal , Bäretswil ; † November 10, 1960 in Zurich ; resident in Fehraltorf and Zurich) was a Swiss politician ( Democratic Party ).

Life

Briner attended schools and high school in Zurich before he devoted himself to law studies in Zurich and Berlin from 1904 to 1908. In 1910 he received his doctorate with the title Dr. iur. He then worked as an auditor at the Zurich District Court (1910–1911) and as a secretary to the municipal guardianship authority (1912–1919). He then worked until 1935 as head of the cantonal youth welfare office. From 1935 to 1951 Briner - the long-time president of the Democratic Party - sat in the government council of the canton of Zurich , where he headed the police and military and from 1943 the education department. In 1939/1940 and 1945/1946 he was President of the Zurich Government Council.

In addition to his political activities, Briner was a lecturer at the School for Social Work from 1917 to 1957 , of which he was president from 1930 to 1958. He also chaired the Swiss National Donation (1947–1959), Pro Infirmis (1932–1960) and the Swiss Central Agency for Refugee Aid (1938–1945).

Briner was married, was a colonel in the Swiss Army and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1951 .
