Robert A. Gorman

Robert A. Gorman (born  April 22, 1937 in New York City ) is an American lawyer and has been a professor at the University of Pennsylvania since 1969 .

Life

Gorman first received his education at Harvard College , where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958 . This is followed by a closed Fulbright Program funded study abroad at the University College of the University of Oxford in. After returning to his home country, he was awarded a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University in 1962 . During his studies, Gorman served as the treasurer of the Harvard Law Review . After graduation, he was admitted to the New York State bar and worked for a year as a research associate forIrving Kaufman , Justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit . He then moved to a New York law firm as a lawyer. In 1965 he became a research assistant and in 1967 private lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1969 he got there finally a call for a professorship. He held this position until his retirement in 2000. Gorman then worked as a professor at Arizona State University until 2006 . During his teaching activities, he held visiting professorships at the University of Michigan Law School and the universities of New York , Texas and Kansas , among others . In 1971 he also taught at the Hague Academy for International Law . From 1980 to 2007 Gorman was a member of the Administrative Court of the World Bank , of which he was Vice-President from 1993 to 1998 and of which he was President from 1998 to 2001. In addition, from 1995 to 2004 he was a judge at the administrative court of the Asian Development Bank , which he chaired between 2002 and 2004. From 2007 to 2013 he was a member of the administrative court of the Inter-American Development Bank , from 2012 to 2013 as its chairman.

Memberships

Between 1966 and 1969, Gorman was a member of the American Historical Association . As a member of the American delegation, he took part in the Hague Conference on Private International Law between 1967 and 1969 . Gorman has been a member of the American Law Institute since 1978 .
