Robert Goss

Robert E. "Bob" Goss (born May 11, 1948 ) is an American theologian , university professor and author.

Live and act

Goss grew up in a Roman Catholic family and was ordained a priest with the Jesuits in 1976 . In 1978 he left the Jesuits and received the Th.D. in Comparative Religion from Harvard University . In 1995 he moved to the Metropolitan Community Church and served in their congregations in St. Louis and currently in North Hollywood .

Goss taught in the Religious Studies Department at Webster University from 1994 to 2004 and served intermittently as chair of department . He was involved in LGBT organizations such as Act Up , QueerNation and the religious LGBT group DignityUSA . In 2003 the university refused to give him a lifelong job. Goss saw the cause of this decision in his homosexuality .

Goss also served on the National Advisory Board of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley . He is currently co-editor of a theological commentary for Jewish and Christian scriptures, The Queer Bible Commentary . He is also currently assistant professor at California State University, Northridge , where he teaches Comparative Religious Studies.

Awards

In 2000, Goss received the Templeton Course Prize in Religion & Science .
