Robert James Waller

Robert James Waller (born August 1, 1939 in Rockford , Iowa , † March 10, 2017 in Fredericksburg , Texas ) was an American writer who was also known for his work as a photographer and musician .

Robert James Weller taught applied mathematics and business administration at the University of Northern Iowa for many years , most recently as dean . In 1986 he left the university and then turned to artistic pursuits. His debut novel The Bridges of Madison County , which he is said to have written within eleven days, sold millions of copies. Although few critics about Waller works found favor, reached after another of his books, the New York Times - bestselling list.

His romance novel The Bridges of Madison County, about a photographer's brief but passionate affair with a married housewife, was filmed in 1995 as The Bridges on the River by and with Clint Eastwood . His novel Puerto Vallarta Squeeze , published in 1995, was also adapted for the screen in 2004 with Scott Glenn , Harvey Keitel and Jonathan Brandis . Waller lived in Cedar Falls , Iowa for a long time , but moved to Texas in the 1990s . He died of cancer in March 2017 at the age of 77.
