Robert Martin (sound engineer)

Robert "Bob" Martin (born March 31, 1916 in Pennsylvania , † January 16, 1992 in San Luis Obispo , California ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

Martin started his career in the early 1960s. He made his debut as a sound assistant on Billy Wilder's comedy Das Appartement . He then worked on four other films with Wilder, The Girl Irma la Douce , Kiss Me, Dummkopf , The Lucky Duck and a few years later, Extrablatt

In 1970 he was nominated for Gaily, Gaily together with Clem Portman for the Oscar in the category Best Sound . In the same year he also worked for the first time for television, where he worked on A Sheriff in New York and The People of Shiloh Ranch , among others . After making 24 feature films, Martin retired from the film business in 1976, his last job was in the war film Battle of Midway . He died in San Luis Obispo in 1992 at the age of 75.
