Robert Merkel
Anton Robert Merkel (born January 31, 1850 in Mylau ; † May 18, 1916 there ) was a German entrepreneur and member of the German Reichstag .
Life
Merkel attended elementary school and received private lessons in Mylau, after which he attended the secondary school in Plauen and the commercial school in Glauchau . He learned first as a weaver and then as a merchant in Mylau. From 1866 to 1869 he was employed as a merchant in Glauchau. He served as a one-year volunteer from October 1, 1869, and was drafted as a private in 1870. During the campaign he was promoted to lieutenant in the reserve and on November 30, 1870, he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Villiers . He was adopted with the regimental uniform. After the war he joined his father's worsted weaving and worsted spinning mill in Mylau, which he later took over with his brother. Merkel was a member of the Mylauer Stadtgemeinderat since 1883 and city council since 1886. He was also a member of the district assembly, chairman of the Reichenbach-Mylau-Netzschkau factory owners 'association and a board member of the Saxon-Thuringian weavers' association in Leipzig .
He was awarded the campaign medal 1870/71, the commemorative medal for Kaiser Wilhelm I , the Saxon Order of Albrecht and the Knight's Cross First Class .
From 1907 to 1912 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Saxony 22 ( Auerbach , Reichenbach ) and the National Liberal Party . In addition, since 1905 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament .
