Robert Schiff (chemist)

Robert Schiff (born July 25, 1854 in Frankfurt am Main ; died 1940 in Massa , Italy ) was a German-Italian chemist.

He was the son of the physiologist Moritz Schiff and Claudia Trier.

He studied at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1876. He then went to La Sapienza University in Rome as an assistant to Stanislao Cannizzaro . In 1879 he was appointed to the chair of chemistry at the University of Modena . In 1892 he moved to Pisa .

He researched the condensation of aldehydes and heterocycles . He also carried out investigations into Schiff's bases that his uncle Hugo Schiff had discovered.

His publications appeared in the Gazzetta Chimica Italiana , in the Chemical Reports , in Justus Liebig's Annalen der Chemie and in the Zeitschrift für Physikalische Chemie .
