Robert Bad

Robert Schlecht (born June 28, 1740 in Wemding ; † March 3, 1802 ) was the head of the Salem Imperial Abbey from 1778 to 1802 .

Schlecht made his profession in 1760 and was ordained a priest in 1766. In 1772 he became a novice master and was prior of the Salem monastery from 1774 to 1777 . On June 4, 1778, Schlecht was elected Abbot of Salem by the convention in the second ballot . The Benediction took place by Bishop Maximilian Christoph von Rodt . On 22 September 1779 it to the Abbot General appointed François Trouvé the vicar general of the Cistercian monasteries in Swabia and Tyrol and entrusted him in 1791 his rights on the Upper German Cistercian Congregation .

During his time he had numerous buildings erected, including the official classicistic cathedral furnishings. During his term of office the Salem paper mill and the poor house in Wespach were founded. He also settled the conflicts with Konstanz, Überlingen and Pfullendorf.

Robert Schlecht's older brother was the composer Franz Xaver Schlecht (around 1730 - 1782), author of several sacred compositions and instrumental works.
