The venues for the events he organized with internationally known jazz performers in Linz included: a. the Congress Hall of the Linz Chamber of Labor , the March Gallery and Weinberg Castle . His jazz lectures at the adult education center formed the basis for the regular group of visitors to the jazz events not only in Linz, but also in other Austrian cities.

He worked as a jazz advisor at the youth department of the city of Linz , at the Linz event company (LIVA) for the Bruckner Festival and for Ars Electronica . With the creation of the first Linz jazz plan, he managed to manage the concert series of the cooperating organizers as a group as Jazz on the Danube . The concert series for improvised music launched in October 2006 under the title Jazztime in the Brucknerhaus expressly refers to the great Linz jazz tradition initiated by Urmann and friends in the 1950s.

Urmann was anchorman for the jazz era in Linz between 1954 and 1978. The America House was the first place to stay. A permanent home was found in the Chamber of Labor, which was opened in 1953. The activities were carried out by the JazzClub founded in 1956, the adult education center and the City of Linz Cultural Office. The city developed into Austria's top address for jazz.
