Robert W. Gore (born April 15, 1937 in Salt Lake City ) is an American engineer and scientist, inventor and businessman who, together with his father Bill Gore, developed the Gore-Tex , a waterproof but vapor- permeable membrane made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) , invented.

Gore attended the University of Delaware and received a PhD from the University of Minnesota in chemical engineering . As a student in Delaware in 1957, he discovered a way to insulate electrical conductors with PTFE tape. In 1969 he stretched heated PTFE rods and thus produced expanded PTFE, which was patented and sold under the Gore-Tex brand .

His father Bill founded WL Gore & Associates in 1958. Robert Gore was President of the company from 1976 to 2000 and is currently (2010) nor its Board of Directors Chairman .
