Robert Wimmer (athlete)
Robert Wimmer (born June 14, 1965 in Darmstadt ) is a German ultra-marathon runner who has his greatest successes in stage runs . Among other things, he won the 5036-kilometer Trans-European Run in 2003, which led from Lisbon to Moscow in 64 daily stages . Until 2010 he was a member of the gymnastics and sports club Zirndorf (TSV-Zirndorf). He has been working for LAC Quelle Fürth since January 1st, 2011 .
Life
Robert Wimmer grew up in Hessen, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria and learned the trade of a master optician.
In 1987 he started running. After nine months of running training, he ran his first marathon in Berlin in a time of 3:19 hours. Robert Wimmer then became more and more persistent and faster. He achieved numerous age group victories and overall victories over distances of 10 to 42.195 kilometers.
But it soon turned out that his specialty are ultra-long distances. He has won several Bavarian and South German championships in the 100-kilometer road race . In 2002 he won the German championship in the 100-kilometer track run in Brakel in a time of 7:22 h.
Victory at the 2003 Transeuropal Run
Robert Wimmer spent many months preparing for the Transeuropean Run with the Hubert Schwarz Performance Team. Training weeks with a mileage of up to 520 km were part of the preparation program. The former national marathon trainer Thomas Prochnow supported him in planning his training and the nutritionist Wolfgang Feil supported him in nutritional planning . He learned his mental training from the extreme athlete Hubert Schwarz .
On April 19, 2003, in front of the Torre de Belém in Lisbon, the starting signal for one of the longest running competitions of modern times was given. After 64 daily stages through Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia, Robert Wimmer crossed the finish line at the Moscow Kremlin as the overall winner after 480 hours and 29 minutes of running time .

Others
Wimmer is one of the portrayed protagonists in the documentary I Want to Run about the Transeuropalauf 2009, which was shown in German cinemas in spring 2012.
