Roberto Óscar Bonano (born January 24, 1970 in Rosario , Argentina ) is a former football player in the position of goalkeeper . Due to his ancestry and ancestors - Bonano is an Italian name - he also received Italian citizenship .

Career

Bonano played at the beginning of his career in his home country Argentina for Rosario Central and River Plate , especially with the latter club he won several titles (including four Argentine championships and one time the Copa Libertadores ). In 2001 he moved to FC Barcelona , for whom he made his debut on August 26, 2001 in the league game against FC Sevilla (2-1). After Bonano was first goalkeeper at Barcelona in the first season and over half of the second season, he was replaced on Matchday 31 of the 2002/03 season by the up-and-coming 21-year-old Víctor Valdés .

When Bonano realized that he would no longer play a big role at Barcelona, he changed clubs after this season and played from there for Real Murcia . Even at Murcia he was not happy with his 11 appearances and relegation to the second Spanish division, so he left the club again after one season.

Bonano joined Deportivo Alavés for the 2004/05 season . There he was the undisputed goalkeeper in his first season and led Alaves to promotion to the Primera División . In the following season, the Argentine lost his regular place after three games and was unable to counteract the immediate relegation. His third professional year at Alaves was the worst: Bonano was suspended by club owner Dmytryj Pyterman after he and his teammate Luis Carreras had fought with Pyterman. After the 2007/08 season, in which he did not play a single game, he ended his career.

Between 1996 and 2002 Bonano completed 13 international matches for Argentina and took part in the 2002 World Cup, where he was not used.
