Roberto Jabali (born May 16, 1970 in Ribeirão Preto ) is a former Brazilian tennis player .

Life

Jabali was in 1987 in the round of 16 of the junior tournament of the US Open , the following year he reached after victories among others over Marc Rosset and Todd Martin the semifinals of the junior competition of the French Open , in which he was defeated by Magnus Larsson . In the following junior tournaments at Wimbledon and the US Open, he was in the quarterfinals of the doubles competition.

He was unable to repeat the successes of his youth as a professional tennis player, and so he played the majority of his career on the ATP Challenger Tour , where he won five individual titles between 1989 and 1997. He celebrated his greatest success on the ATP World Tour in Mexico City in 1994 . Having made it into the main draw as a qualifier, he defeated Luis-Enrique Herrera and Bryan Shelton , among others , before he was defeated by Thomas Muster in two sets in the final . He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1996 with position 130 in singles and in 1989 with position 355 in doubles.

He was only able to qualify once for a Grand Slam tournament. After defeating Justin Gimelstob in qualifying for the US Open in 1996 , he was clearly defeated in three sets against Tim Henman in his first round encounter .
