Roberto Negro

Roberto Negro (born May 28, 1981 in Turin ) is an Italian jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Negro grew up in Kinshasa , where he attended French school. He studied in France, first in Chambéry and then in Paris. Since 2010, "albums of captivating originality" have been released in different constellations.

Negro has been a member of the French music community Tricollectif in Orleans since 2011 . He worked in duos with Théo Ceccaldi (albums Babies, Montevago ) and as metanuits with Émile Parisien . In 2017 he presented the album Saison 3 in the Trio DaDaDa with Parisien and Michele Rabbia , and worked with Valentin Ceccaldi and Sylvain Darrifourcq in the Trio Garibaldi Plop . He also played in groups called La Scala (with the Ceccaldi brothers and drummer Adrien Chennebault, album of the same name in 2014) and Kimono (withChristophe Monniot , bassist Stéphane Decolly and Adrien Chennebault, album of the same name 2015). In 2018 his solo album Kings and Bastards was released on CAM Jazz . He also worked with Élise Caron and Xavier Machault. For Karl Lippegaus he is fascinating as a pianist and at the same time “an imaginative composer who occasionally reminds of Erik Satie and John Cage .” Negro can still be heard on albums by David Enhco and with the Grand Orchester du Tricot .

Prizes and awards

In 2018 Negro won the “Jazz Album of the Year” award at the Victoires du Jazz for the trio album DaDaDa and was chosen as a favorite by the Charles Cros Academy in 2017 .
