Sylvain Darrifourcq
Sylvain Darrifourcq (born July 4, 1979 in Orthez ) is a French jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , composition ).
Live and act
Darrifourcq had a classic training as a percussionist . At the age of 15 he began playing rock music as a drummer before discovering jazz and improvised music. After meeting Daniel Humair , he moved to Toulouse, where he studied at the Conservatory and received a prize. In 2003 he founded his group L'Égotiste Sorel , with which he presented his debut album. Since 2004 he has been a member of the Émile Parisien Quartet for more than ten years , which in 2009 was awarded a Victoire du Jazz as “French New Discovery of the Year”.
From 2008 Darrifourcq collaborated in French and international projects with musicians such as Joëlle Léandre , Tony Malaby , Michel Portal , Louis Sclavis , Marc Ducret , Andrea Parkins , Akosh S , Jean-Luc Cappozzo , Théo Ceccaldi or Claude Tchamitchian , later in the White Desert Orchestra of Eve Risser and in a trio with Kit Downes and Julien Desprez . He also worked with various choreographers, dancers and video artists as well as with the composer Guillaume Hermen . In the trio In Love with, which has existed since 2013, with Valentin Ceccaldi and Manuel Hermia , he first presented the album God at the Casino , followed by Kaijū Eats Cheeseburgers . For his project MilesDavisQuintet! which, unlike the name suggests, consists only of himself, Ceccaldi and Xavier Camarasa, he composed with Joachim Kühn as well as for the album Sfumato von Parisien . In 2018 he also played in a trio with Tony Malaby and Richard Bonnet .
