James Allsopp

James Allsopp (born June 4, 1981 ) is a British fusion and jazz musician ( tenor and baritone saxophone , clarinets , composition ).

Act

Allsopp founded the group Fraud with Tim Giles while studying at the Royal Academy of Music ; the breakthrough with the band came at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival ( voted best gig of 2006 by Jazzwise magazine), after which they recorded their debut album of the same name. This was nominated for "Best Album" at the 2007 BBC Jazz Awards . The group was named Best New Act at the 2007 Ronnie Scott's Jazz Awards. In July 2008 Fraud won the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation.

Allsopp also formed the trio The Golden Age of Steam , in which he worked with Giles and organist Kit Downes and released an album in 2009. He also directed the James Allsopp Organ Trio and Allsopp Vosloo Stanley Giles .

As a sideman, Allsopp James accompanied Brian Irvine's ensemble on European tours, but also in the USA; he is a member of Fringe Magnetic and of the group Mirror , which performs compositions by Dan Nicholls . He also belonged to the group Polar Bear , with which he introduced himself on the European continent, as well as to World Sanguine Report around Andrew Plummer, with which two albums were created. As a soloist he performed His Marvelous Medicine , a piece by the composer Brian Irvine, with the Ulster Orchestra ; In 2006 he played the world premiere of Shore by composer Dave Meric . He also worked with Joe Morris , the F-IRE Collective Big Band , Richard Fairhurst , Ingrid Laubrock , Paul Dunmall , Django Bates , Stan Sulzmann , Graham Collier and David Axelrod . Tom Lord has recorded 28 jazz recordings between 2000 and 2018.
