Roby Seidel

Roby Seidel (* 16th August 1942 ; † 3. January 2014 ) was a Swiss saxophonist , arranger , conductor and composer , who in the jazz scene of Geneva was active.

Seidel came from a family of musicians and first learned the viola , then the cornet , before switching to the saxophone and studying at the Conservatoire de Genève. At 18, he played in the Grand Orchester de jazz of Paul Thommen , which he took over later. From 1975 he headed the Groupe instrumental romand (GIR), for which he wrote and composed arrangements with Luc Hoffmann and Stuff Combe . In 2013, Seidel led the Big Band de Suisse romande . In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1967 and 1998. a. with the Groupe Instrumental Romand ( 40 ans de Jazz Genevois ), Alain Guyonnet , Tony Scott , Pierre Guyonnet , the DRS Big Band and the Big Band de Lausanne.
