structure

The Diagnostics Division is divided into four business areas: Roche Professional Diagnostics, Roche Molecular Diagnostics, Roche Diabetes Care and Roche Tissue Diagnostics. She knows two global functions - Global Platforms & Support and Global Operations - and has had a “ Sequencing ” unit since 2013 .

The business areas include in detail:

  • Diabetes Care - blood sugar measuring devices, insulin pumps, lancing devices and accessories as well as service and support for diabetics under the globally established Accu-Chek brand (headquarters in Basel).
  • Professional Diagnostics - integrated and decentralized system solutions for clinical and private laboratories, for emergency medicine, clinics and private practice, IT services; Products and brand names are Cobas (also suitable for coronavirus diagnostics), Elecsys, Modular, Reflotron, Urisys etc. (headquarters in Rotkreuz).
  • Molecular Diagnostics - diagnostic systems based on PCR technology ; Products and brand names are Cobas, LightCycler etc. (headquarters in Pleasanton).
  • Roche Tissue Diagnostics - Ventana, a member of the Roche Group, develops fully automated devices, workflow solutions and reagents for tissue-based cancer diagnostics. The device systems and tumor biomarkers help pathologists in hospitals, for example, to quickly analyze tissue samples if they suspect cancer or infectious diseases and make a diagnosis. The results of the examination represent an essential component for a differentiated therapy decision and are therefore of great importance for the attending physician. (Headquarters in Tucson, Arizona, USA)

The former “Applied Science” division was dissolved in 2013. The PCR technology was transferred to the "Molecular Diagnostics" division, while other products from the clinical-chemical portfolio of "Applied Science" have been supplied by the "Professional Diagnostics" division since then.

The CEO of the diagnostics division is Thomas Schinecker, who took over the task from Michael Heuer in 2019.

Part of the research and development as well as production for diabetes and point-of-care devices is located at the Mannheim location . The central warehouse is also located here, from which deliveries to other national companies as well as direct deliveries to many European countries are made.
