Pleasanton is a US city in Alameda County in the US state of California . It has about 71,900 inhabitants (as of 2007). The city is located at the geographical coordinates 37.67 ° north, 121.89 ° west. The urban area has a size of 56.5 km².
Pleasanton is located at the junction of Interstate 580 and 680 and, together with the neighboring city of Dublin, forms the easternmost point of the BART system; it is thus connected to the cities in the San Francisco Bay Area and partially functions as their suburbs . Pleasanton is one of the richest medium-sized cities in the United States.
