Obermärker were the gentlemen from and to Rodenstein . They got into financial difficulties in the 17th century and sold the Fränkisch-Crumbach estate to Hessen-Darmstadt. In this context, Hessen-Darmstadt also acquired the hunting rights in the Rodensteiner Mark.

With the Rhine Confederation Act , the area of the Mark became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806 . The forest use rights in 1816 were distributed to the participating villages by real division . The existing rights of the lower jurisdiction and in particular the forest jurisdiction were transferred to state courts. This was considered unlawful by the class lords .
