Rodney Heath

Rodney Wilfrid Heath (born June 15, 1884 in Birmingham , United Kingdom , † October 26, 1936 in Melbourne , Australia ) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

Heath was the winner of the men's singles at the first edition of the Australian Championships (now the Australian Open ) in 1905. He was able to repeat this success in 1910 . He also won the doubles competition in 1906 with Anthony Wilding and in 1911 with Randolph Lycett . In 1911 he also achieved his best result at the Wimbledon Championships with the round of 16.

In 1911 he won the Davis Cup with the team from Australia and New Zealand . In the final against the US team, he defeated William Larned 3-1 sets.

During the First World War , Heath was drafted in 1915 and joined the Royal Flying Corps . In 1917 he was promoted to major .

After the war, Heath won the doubles indoor tournament in Paris, and reached the doubles finals at Wimbledon in 1919. In 1920 he won the Davis Cup again with Australia . In 1925 he took part in the tournament at Wimbledon for the last time.

He died on October 26, 1936 in a Melbourne hospital.
