Roger Hume

Roger Hume (born November 19, 1940 in London , † August 24, 1996 in Banbury , Oxfordshire ) was a British actor .

Life

The son of George Hume , a director of the Royal Shakespeare Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, began his acting career as a stage assistant and laborer. Later he worked as an actor and singer himself. a. in London's West End in a production of the musical Oliver! .

This was followed by appearances in film and television productions such as Carry on Regardless (with Kenneth Williams ) and The Path to the Moon (with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope ).

He then turned back to the stage, played in the West End and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company . Hume also wrote stage works and one-person pieces, which he often performed himself, e.g. B. Old Herbaceous , with whom he toured several countries and which he also played for the Queen.

He also worked extensively in radio. As an actor for the BBC, he took part in over 200 productions. He achieved particular popularity through his role as farm worker "Bert Fry" in the radio series The Archers , which he played from 1988 until a few days before his death. He had previously played various other roles for the series from 1979.

Hume also made numerous guest appearances on television series such as Fawlty Towers , The Bill and Poirot . The comedy A Fish Named Wanda is one of his well-known feature film productions .

Roger Hume died on August 24, 1996 at the age of 55 after a stroke.
