life and work
Roger Raveel received his first academic training with Hubert Malfait (1898–1971) in Deinze from 1933 to 1937 and as a freelance student from 1940 to 1941. He continued this training from 1942 to 1945 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent .
In 1948 he founded the group La Relève , together with Jan Burssens , Kamiel D'haben and Pierre Vlerick . The new technical possibilities, physics and new technical developments gave him a different view of the world. He wanted to create a new world in his art, which should allow for a new separate and specific design and content.
Raveel's style is characterized by a mixture of abstract and figurative painting. He had his first solo exhibition at the Festpalais in Ostend in 1960. In 1968, Raveel took part in the 4th documenta in Kassel with five of his pictures .
