This largest settlement in the valley is about 1070 meters above sea level, roughly in the middle of the Starzlach valley (also called Rohrmoostal ), which extends - roughly in an east-west direction - from the Oberstdorf district of Tiefenbach across the border towards Sibratsgälle in the state of Vorarlberg .

Rohrmoos can be reached via a toll road from Oberstdorf, the private road continues from Rohrmoos over the Rohrmoossattel towards the Austrian border, but is closed to motorized traffic from Rohrmoos. However, the connection is often used by cycle tourists.

Attractions

In Rohrmoos, next to a mountain inn, there is the St. Anna Chapel , the oldest wooden chapel in southern Germany and one of the oldest surviving wooden churches in Europe. It was built in 1568 at the instigation of Reichserbtruchseß Jakob von Waldburg-Wolfegg . Inside it is decorated with paintings. On the west wall there is a large representation of the Last Judgment .

The Starzlach , a tributary of the Breitach , rises a little west of Rohrmoos, shortly before the Aibele Alpe (which is only cultivated in the summer half of the year ) on a European watershed .
