Roland-Manuel

Roland-Manuel (aka Roland Alexis Manuel Lévy , born March 22, 1891 in Paris ; † November 1, 1966 ibid) was a French music critic and composer.

Roland-Manuel studied at the Schola Cantorum Paris with Albert Roussel , Vincent d'Indy and Auguste Sérieyx . In 1911 Eric Satie introduced him to Maurice Ravel , whose pupil and friend he became. He later wrote several biographical writings on Ravel.

From 1947 to 1961 Roland-Manuel was professor at the Conservatoire de Paris , initially for music aesthetics, from 1959 for music education. From 1949 he was President of the UNESCO International Music Council .

In addition to some chamber music works, Roland-Manuel composed operas and film music.
