Hans Roland Alexander Brückner (born June 8, 1912 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ; † August 23, 1996 in Basel ) was a German - Swiss ophthalmologist and university professor .

Life

Roland Brückner, born in Berlin, son of the renowned ophthalmologist Arthur Brückner and Hertha Ottilie, born Teichmüller, moved with his family to Basel in 1923. He passed his Matura there before he turned to a degree in medicine , which he obtained with the academic degree of Dr. med. completed. After years of residency combined with further training as an ophthalmologist, Brückner was appointed head physician of the eye department at St. Clara Hospital in Basel, a position he held until he retired.

In addition , he completed his habilitation in 1948 as a private lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Basel , where he was appointed associate professor in 1963 . He made a name for himself in the fields of childhood eye diseases and retinal diseases. In Basel, Brückner took lessons from Albrecht Mayer at the trade school between 1927 and 1936 and admired him all his life.

Roland Brückner, who married Margarethe Sauter, born in Basel in 1939, with whom he had five children, died in 1996 at the age of 84 in Basel.
