Roland Diethart (* 3. August 1973 in Trofaiach , Styria ) is a former Austrian cross-country skiers and ÖSV - trainers .

Career

The trained masseur started for the WSV Ramsau am Dachstein and was a member of the Austrian national cross-country skiing team. In addition, the trained specialist cross-country trainer, trainer for general physical training and instructor for jumping, also worked as a trainer for the ÖSV until 2008.

In 2004 , Diethart , who is rarely used in the cross-country skiing World Cup and already working as a trainer, surprised everyone at a World Cup start in Reit im Winkl, Germany, with fifth place over 15 km in free technique . In the same year Diethart also took second place at the Austrian State Championships in Bad Goisern over 15 km of skating and was thus nominated for the list for the World Championships in Oberstdorf 2005. There the Styrian, who lives in Ramsau am Dachstein, achieved an excellent fifth place with the Austrian 4x10 km relay.

Afterwards Diethart was again regularly active in the World Cup and also participated in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he was used in the relay. After a doping control by the IOC and the Italian police the night before the relay competition, when 30 Carabinieri examined the accommodations of the Austrian cross-country skiers, the entire team was so depressed that it was even lapped as the last team in the relay race. Diethart was the third runner on the ÖSV team when he was taken out of the race by those responsible.

In April 2007 Diethart, his cross-country skiing colleagues Johannes Eder , Jürgen Pinter and Martin Tauber as well as two Austrian biathletes were banned from the Olympic Games for life by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In the opinion of the IOC, all were considered convicted of having jointly used doping substances. IOC justification for the severe penalty: "These cases go beyond the simple possession of prohibited substances and methods, and are clear examples in which a network, including athletes, came together to manipulate blood and engage in doping practices." Their results from Turin have been deleted. In the appeal before the International Sports Court (CAS), the bans for Pinter, Eder and Tauber were confirmed on January 4, 2008. Diethart's exclusion was shortened up to and including the 2010 Olympic Games.

Diethart was initially banned from the International Ski Federation (FIS) for four years. This ban was later reduced to two years. In September 2008, following an appeal by Diethart to the CAS, the beginning of the suspension from November 22, 2007 was backdated to February 19, 2006. Diethart has largely been rehabilitated by the CAS judgment and would have been eligible to start again immediately. However, he announced the immediate end of his sporting career and also resigned from his position as a junior coach at the Nordic Training Center in Eisenerz.

Diethart runs the Hotel Annelies in Ramsau am Dachstein together with his wife Anja .
