Roland Fritzsch

Roland Fritzsch (born April 22, 1929 in Steinbach ; † October 23, 2012 in Dresden ) was a German forest scientist.

Life

He was born the son of the forester Fritz Fritzsch (1900-1892) and his wife Paula (1899-1976) in the group of houses belonging to Steinbach near Johanngeorgenstadt Sauschwemme on the driveway to the 1018 m high Auersberg in the Saxon Ore Mountains . After attending school, he studied at the forestry faculty in Eberswalde . After gaining practical experience in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and in domestic and foreign trade in the GDR, Roland Fritzsch received a position at the Institute for Forest Engineering at the Technical University of Dresden in Tharandt in 1958 . There he was promoted to Dr. rer. silv. obtained his doctorate and then worked as a senior scientific assistant at this institute until 1992. He then worked as a project manager at the Institute for Forest Use and Forest Technology in Tharandt. In 1995 he retired at the age of 66. In autumn 2012 he died in Dresden.

Act

His research topics were in particular forest renewal and afforestation, about which he also published several times. Above all, the development of a machine system for forest nurseries and for forest renewal is of lasting merit. The Ore Mountains owe him methods of mechanization for the reforestation of the bare areas on the Ore Mountain Ridge, which have been heavily polluted by industrial emissions from the Bohemian Basin.
