Rolando Irusta

Rolando Hugo Irusta (born March 27, 1938 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine soccer player.

Career

Rolando Irusta began playing football at the local River Plate club . However, he was not used there in 1958 and moved to Cemento Armado in the province. After a few years in sub-league football in Argentina, he was signed in 1962 by CA Lanús from the province of Buenos Aires . In 132 league games, Rolando Irusta guarded the goal of Lanús over the next five years. Half a year after the 1966 World Cup, Rolando Irusta's time in Lanús ended, he went to CA Huracán . There he played football less successfully for a year and only played four games. After a year without a job, Irusta was goalkeeper at Atlético Excursionistas from 1969, where he made another 41 games until 1971.

In 1972, the Venezuelan club Portuguesa FC signed him .

National team

National coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo appointed him to the squad for the 1966 World Cup in England . At the tournament, Irusta was only the third goalkeeper behind Antonio Roma and Hugo Gatti , he was not used. His team, however, reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated 0-1 against the eventual world champion from the motherland of football. Even later, Rolando Irusta never made an international appearance.
