Rolando Valdés (band leader)
Rolando Valdés (born November 6, 1923 in Havana , † December 12, 2015 ) was a Cuban band leader.
Valdés founded the Orquesta Sensación in 1953 , which in the following years became one of the most successful orchestras in Cuba, and with singers such as Alfonsín Quintana , Cheo Junco , Gerardo Pedroso , Celio González , Luis Donald , Mario Varona , the "Caruso del Son", Abelardo Barroso , Miguelito Cuní and Celia Cruz performed. In 1957 the orchestra won a gold record . In the 1970s Valdés came to New York and founded a salsa orchestra there.
