Rolf Beck

Rolf Beck (born January 15, 1945 in Michelstadt ) is a German conductor and choir director . From 1999 to 2013 he was director of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

Life

Beck studied law in Marburg and Lausanne , as well as at the Frankfurt University of Music in the conducting class of Helmuth Rilling . From 1981 he was director of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , where in 1983 he founded the Bamberg Symphony Choir and the Concerto Bamberg instrumental ensemble. From 1996 he was head of the orchestra and choir division at NDR . In 1998 he became director of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, of which he was director from 1999 to 2013.

In 1989 Beck received the Federal Cross of Merit and in 2008 he was awarded the honorary professorship of the State of Schleswig-Holstein by the then Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein , Peter Harry Carstensen "in recognition and appreciation of his artistic work and for the development of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival" .
