Rolf D. Gassen

Rolf Dieter Gassen (born September 4, 1942 in Remscheid ) is a German local politician ( FDP ).

Life

Gassen was a member of the council and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in Langenfeld (Rhineland) from 1984 to 2009 . He was deputy district chairman in the Mettmann district for 22 years and a member of the Düsseldorf district board for 20 years. From 1989 to 2004 he was Deputy Mayor of Langenfeld.

Since 2009, he has been one of the city's 22 official contemporary witnesses who report on local political events in Langenfeld in a documentary in sound and image.

He is particularly committed to the partnership with the cities of Gostynin in Poland (reconciliation) and Batangas City in the Philippines (development aid). He has participated in several development projects (including administrative reform, waste disposal, fresh water treatment, resettlement measures, youth welfare and prevention problems).

Gassen holds a degree in business administration and an industrial clerk . He was employed as a lecturer at the industrial group Mannesmann in Düsseldorf for over 30 years . After the takeover of Mannesmann AG by Vodafone , he worked there for several years. From 1972 to 2010 he was an examiner for a number of commercial professions at the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Gassen worked for several years as a language teacher in the armed forces. He taught English and German at the Bundeswehr language school , also in the context of development aid .

Gassen was a lay judge and appraiser at the Düsseldorf Social Court until 2014 . From 2000 to November 2015 he was deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Bauverein Langenfeld eG and, since November 25, 2015, chairman of the cooperative's supervisory body. He is a member of the audit committee of the housing cooperative Bauverein Langenfeld . He also works on a voluntary basis in several associations , so Gassen is involved in a support association for the maintenance of the moated castle Haus Graven and in the support association of the Langenfeld town ensemble. He is a founding member of the Citizens for Citizens Initiative , which takes care of older people. He has been chairman of the friends' association of the LVR-Klinik Langenfeld since March 2015 , before that he was deputy chairman for 15 years. He has been a member of the LVR Clinic's forensic advisory board for 11 years. Today in the function of ombudsman and from March 2, 2017 as a member of the ethics committee.

Gassen is working with the Friends' Association to renovate the clinic church, one of the rare simultaneous churches in Germany.

Gassen is a founding member of the society against unemployment and the special purpose association Hilden / Langenfeld of the Bettina-von-Arnim comprehensive school. He is a member of the Felix Metzmacher Circle of Friends (formerly Aktionkreis Felix Metzmacher ), which wants to preserve the memories of the mayor of the city of Langenfeld (1908-1914). Since 2015 Gassen has been part of an initiative group to erect a memorial plaque for the Jewish doctor Dr. Hugo Zade, who was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944, first pediatrician in Langenfeld from 1905 to 1937, at the St Martinus Hospital in Langenfeld-Richrath.

In September 2011, Gassen was elected ombudsman at LVR-Klinik Langenfeld by the hospital committee of the Rhineland Regional Association and was reappointed for four years by Hospital Committee 2 of the Rhineland Regional Association on May 19, 2015. Since May 2013 he has been a member of the health and care conference of the Mettmann district and is responsible for patient protection as patient spokesman.

Gassen is married and has a son and a daughter.

Awards and recognitions

On July 26, 1999, Gassen received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. Since 2009 he has been the holder of the Golden Ring of Honor of the city of Langenfeld and holder of the golden badge of honor and the silver plaque of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce for services to professional training. In April 2012 he became an honorary member of Kinderherzhilfe Langenfeld e. V.
