Rolf Decot

Rolf Decot CSsR (* 1942 in Essen ) is a German Catholic theologian .

Life

Decot comes from a Berlin Huguenot family. He passed his Abitur at the Collegium Josephinum Bonn and then joined the Redemptorists . He studied theology first in Trier, then from 1965 at the Philosophical-Theological University in Hennef. After being ordained priest in 1970, he also studied history and education at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. The subsequent theological doctorate was supervised by Anton Philipp Brück . This work about the "Elector and Archbishop Sebastian von Heusenstamm 1545-1555" was awarded the prize of the University of Mainz. Before and after his habilitationin Middle and Modern Church History (“Reform and Reich Policy”) in Mainz he developed an intensive teaching activity. From 1984 to 1996 he was Professor of Church History at Phil.-Theol. Hennef University and since 1996 at the Philosophical-Theological University SVD St. Augustin , at the same time he is an adjunct professor at the University of Mainz . From 1977 to 2007 Decot was a research assistant at the Institute for European History in Mainz. He sits on the scientific advisory board of the journal Theologie der Gegenwart (University of Erfurt).

His research focuses on the question of religion on the diets of the 16th century, Reformation and ecumenism, the Archbishopric of Mainz in the early modern period, religion and the church at the end of the Old Kingdom and in secularization and the history of orders (Redemptorists).
