Rolf Elias

Rolf Elias (born July 31, 1920 in Berlin ) is a former German functionary of SEW and the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF). He was state secretary of DSF in Thuringia and chairman of the German-Soviet Friendship Society in West Berlin .

Life

Elias, son of a carpenter , learned the trade of salesman after attending primary school and then worked in the trade. In 1940 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service . From 1940 to 1945 he did military service in the Wehrmacht .

After a brief American prisoner-of-war period , Elias worked as a decorator in Apolda in 1945/46 . In 1946 he became a member of the SED and the DSF. After studying at the pedagogical college for Russian in Erfurt , he worked as a Russian teacher in Bad Sulza in 1947/48 . From 1948 to 1950 he was the organization and state secretary of DSF in Thuringia . In 1951 Elias studied at the SED state party school in Erfurt. In 1952/1953 he headed the central school of DSF in Schönwalde near Berlin and was a member of the secretariat of the DSF central board from 1953 to 1961. From 1956 to 1960 he was the first secretary of the DSF district board for Greater Berlin. At this time Elias completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" , which he graduated in 1960 with a degree in social science. From 1961 to November 1986 Elias was chairman of DSF in West Berlin. At the 6th Congress of DSF West Berlin, he was replaced as chairman by Franz Rump .

Elias was also a long-time member of the SEW party executive committee. He is the author of a monograph on the " Society of Friends of the New Russia ", which existed during the Weimar Republic , as well as the editor of documents on German-Soviet history.
