Rolf Holub (born June 13, 1956 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is an Austrian artist , cabaret artist and former politician ( Die Grünen ). From 2013 to 2018 he was regional councilor in the Carinthian regional government .

education and profession

Holub attended elementary school and completed his schooling with the Matura . He studied medicine from 1976. In 1997 he also began studying journalism . Since 1974 he has worked as a freelance artist in the fields of music, cabaret and drama. In May 1999 Holub was awarded the honor penny of the city of Klagenfurt . From June 2002 to June 2004 he was cultural advisor for the Austrian Students' Union at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt . In 2002 he was supposed to receive the Carinthian Culture Prize, but was deleted from the list of winners for the "cabaret dragon" by the then governor and cultural advisor Jörg Haider , who disliked a critical play by the cabaret artist. Holub faced the alternatives of “emigrating” or “going into politics” and chose the latter.

From March 2003 to April 2004 Holub was a councilor for the Greens in Klagenfurt. In the 2004 state elections in Carinthia , he was the top candidate for the Greens . The party was able to move into the Carinthian state parliament for the first time after the election with a plus of 6.71%, and Holub moved to the state parliament as a member on March 31, 2004. Since the Greens could not form their own state parliament club with two mandates, he and his colleague Barbara Lesjak founded the group of interests Die Grünen (IG Die Grünen in the state parliament), of which he was chairman. For the state elections in 2009 , he ran again as the top candidate of the Carinthian Greens. With a slight loss of votes (−1.56%), the Greens stayed with two seats. From 2004 to 2011 he was state spokesman for the Green Carinthia and he is a member of the state board.

The focus of Holub's political activity for several years has been the uncovering of malversations and political entanglements through to illegal party financing in connection with the business activities of Bank Hypo Alpe Adria before the sale of the shares held by the State of Carinthia and around the sale in 2006 and 2007. From 2010 to 2012 he headed the investigative committee of the Carinthian state parliament on the Hypo Alpe Adria case and the sale to the Bayerische Landesbank as a "top motor vehicle expert ". After reports by Holub and other people against several parties on suspicion of party financing, the investigations that had begun were discontinued by the prosecution in Klagenfurt and Graz. Only after Gustav Leipold and eleven other people, including the Member of the National Council of the Greens Matthias Köchl, had also reported the prosecution himself, did the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor in Vienna start investigations and indictments, court hearings and, in the summer of 2012, Dietrich Birnbacher's confession and on October 1, 2012 for the conviction in the first instance of Josef Martinz , Dietrich Birnbacher, Hans-Jörg Megymorez and Gert Xander for infidelity to prison terms of several years. This procedure led to early elections in Carinthia. On March 11, 2014, the judgment of the Klagenfurt Regional Court was confirmed by the Supreme Court and the sentence against Josef Martinz was reduced to four and a half years. In the Carinthian state elections in 2013 , the party achieved a plus of 6.95%. From 28 March 2013 until 12 April 2018 Holub Minister for Energy, Environment was (without National Parks), sustainability and public transport in the state government Emperor I .

In 2018 he was sent by the Carinthian state government to succeed Bruno Rossmann on the Kelag Supervisory Board .

cabaret

With an appearance in front of selected friends, Rolf Holub began a new career phase as a resurrected cabaret artist on June 16, 2018 in the Klagenfurt E-Board Museum.
