Rolf Linsler

Rolf Linsler (born September 18, 1942 in Gersweiler ; † September 27, 2013 in Saarbrücken ) was a German trade union official and politician ( Die Linke ).

Life

Linsler was the youngest of five children of a railroad secretary . After elementary school he completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic and then worked for 17 years in a physical test workshop at Saarland University , where he was also chairman of the staff council for eight years. From 1978 he was union secretary for the union of public services, transport and traffic (ÖTV), in 1987 he took over the state chairmanship. After the merger to form the United Service Union (ver.di), he became its state chairman in 2001. He held this office until March 2007.

In 1972 Linsler became a member of the SPD . The highest position in the party was that of the secretary in a Saarbrücken sub-district. In August 2007 he announced that he would leave the SPD and move to the left. At the party congress of the left in the Saarland on September 9, 2007, he was elected chairman of the state. After the state elections in Saarland in 2009 , Linsler became deputy chairman of the new left-wing parliamentary group in the Saarland state parliament. On September 23, 2009, Linsler chaired the constituent meeting of the 14th Saarland state parliament as the senior president. In the second session of the 15th state parliament he was elected deputy state parliament president on May 9, 2012.

Linsler had been married since 1965 and was a multiple grandfather. He died on the night of September 27, 2013.

Honors

In 2004 Linsler received the Media Prize Golden Duck from the Saar State Press Conference .
